Filemonk handles basic digital delivery well. Fileflare goes further when you need deeper PDF protection, custom infrastructure, or an API.
Built-in video & audio streaming
Fileflare explicitly supports MP4 and MOV video, MP3 and WAV audio, and PDF viewing directly on the download page. Filemonk’s help centre mentions media streaming, but its current public product pages do not clearly document the supported formats or viewer experience.
Bring your own S3 storage
Connect your own AWS S3 or Cloudflare R2 bucket and serve files from your infrastructure. Filemonk doesn’t support custom storage — you’re locked into their hosting.
PDF print & annotation lock
Both apps offer PDF stamping, but only Fileflare lets you lock PDFs against printing and annotation. Combine dynamic watermarks with print lock and annotation lock to keep your content protected — Filemonk’s stamping doesn’t include these controls.

We think Fileflare is the better choice for most Shopify digital sellers — but there are a few things Filemonk does that we don’t (yet):
More storage per dollar in some tiers
Filemonk’s current Plus plan advertises unlimited storage at $25/mo. Fileflare’s comparable plans pair defined storage allowances with unlimited bandwidth, and add custom S3/R2 on Growth when you want the files to remain in infrastructure you control.
License key delivery
Filemonk can generate and deliver license keys with purchases. Fileflare doesn’t offer license key delivery yet — it’s coming in October 2026.
Strong customer rating

Common questions
Fileflare includes unlimited bandwidth on every plan, including free. Filemonk caps bandwidth at 10–15 TB per plan tier, with overage fees after the cap. For most stores this won’t matter — but if you sell large files or have high traffic, Filemonk’s caps could become a cost factor.
Both Fileflare and Filemonk offer PDF stamping and watermarking. The difference is what happens after the stamp: Fileflare lets you lock PDFs against printing and annotation, so recipients can’t easily strip your watermarks. Filemonk’s stamping doesn’t include print or annotation lock. Fileflare also supports image stamps alongside text.
Yes. Install Fileflare, upload your files, and attach them to your products. Fileflare’s historical order import can also import your existing Shopify orders so previous customers get access to their downloads. You can run both apps side by side during the transition.
