Deeper PDF protection
Both apps stamp PDFs, but Fileflare goes further — print lock, annotation lock, image watermarks, and per-asset stamp templates. SendOwl offers basic text stamping and password-based document locks, but no print or annotation control.
Variant-level file attachment
Attach different files to different Shopify variants — sell an ePub, PDF, and MOBI as separate options, or bundle them as an “all formats” variant. SendOwl links files at the product level and can’t map to Shopify variants.
Email tracking and custom SMTP

We think Fileflare is the better choice for most Shopify digital sellers — but there are a few things SendOwl does that we don’t (yet):
License key management
SendOwl can generate and deliver license keys with purchases. Fileflare doesn’t offer license key delivery yet — but it’s on our roadmap.
Multi-platform selling
SendOwl sells from its own storefront, standalone pages, WordPress, Squarespace, and more — not just Shopify. Fileflare is Shopify-only. If you sell on multiple platforms, SendOwl has broader reach.
Subscriptions & memberships
SendOwl supports file-access subscriptions, drip content, and online courses. Fileflare focuses on one-time digital delivery — though membership and subscription features are coming soon via our Zendra integration.

Common questions
Yes. Every Fileflare plan — including free — includes unlimited bandwidth with no overage fees. SendOwl caps bandwidth at 10–50 GB per month depending on plan, then charges $1/GB for overages. With Fileflare there’s no cap, no throttling, and no surprise charges.
Both apps offer PDF stamping on all paid plans. The difference is depth: Fileflare includes dynamic text and image watermarks, per-asset stamp templates, and print and annotation locks that prevent copying or printing the file. SendOwl offers basic text stamping with order details and password-based document protection.
Yes. Install Fileflare, upload your files (or connect your own S3 bucket), and attach them to your Shopify products. Fileflare’s historical order import will bring in your existing Shopify orders so previous customers keep access to their downloads. You can run both apps side by side during the transition.

Subscriptions — yes! You can use a subscription app and offer recurring downloads, or attach a new file every month (like magazine issues). Fileflare works best with our sister app for memberships & subscriptions, Zendra. And, we have more integration features in progress, too.
License keys — not yet. SendOwl supports license key delivery — that’s a genuine advantage. License key support is on our roadmap and coming soon!
Different business model. Fileflare is a Shopify-native app that uses Shopify’s checkout and infrastructure. SendOwl is a standalone platform with its own checkout, payment processing, and multi-platform support — which costs more to build and maintain. Fileflare focuses on doing one thing well: digital delivery on Shopify.
