Fileflare’s bulk attach CSVs use Shopify SKUs to match files to products. If your products don’t have SKUs yet, you can add them in bulk in just a few minutes — either with a free Shopify app or with Shopify’s own bulk editor.
Not a Fileflare-specific feature. SKUs live on the Shopify side; Fileflare just reads them. The fastest method is a small Shopify app; the manual method works fine for smaller catalogs.
When you’d use this
- You’re about to run a bulk-attach CSV and your products don’t have SKUs.
- You inherited a Shopify store without SKU discipline and want to clean it up.
- You’re moving inventory between systems and need consistent SKUs.
Method 1: Shopify SKU app (fastest)
Use a small app to auto-assign SKUs in bulk. EasyScan SKU & Barcode has a 10-day free trial — usually long enough to assign SKUs to your full catalog and uninstall.
- Install EasyScan from the Shopify App Store.
- In the app, go to Barcodes & SKUs.
- Click Assign new barcodes & SKUs.
- Pick your products, follow the prompts, process.
- Uninstall the app when done if you don’t need it ongoing.
Method 2: Shopify bulk editor (manual)
Shopify’s built-in bulk editor lets you set SKUs by hand for many products at once. Slower but free.
- Shopify admin → Products.
- Select all products (or filter to the subset you want).
- Click Bulk edit.
- Add the SKU column, fill in values, save.
Common issues
- The app generated random-looking SKUs — most SKU apps default to short alphanumeric strings. If you want a specific naming pattern (e.g.,
EBOOK-001), use the manual method. - Variants don’t have SKUs — Shopify treats SKU as a per-variant field. If your products have variants, each variant needs its own SKU. Both methods support this.
- I want to use product titles as SKUs — possible via the bulk editor (copy/paste). The SKU app may not auto-generate from titles.
