Shopify removed app integrations on legacy checkout in early 2025. If you’re still on legacy and Fileflare’s thank-you page or order status downloads have stopped working, the fix is upgrading to Shopify’s modern checkout (Checkout Extensibility). It’s a quick upgrade in Shopify admin and re-enables Fileflare’s blocks immediately.
Applies to stores still using legacy Shopify checkout. The migration is on the Shopify side — it’s free and takes a few minutes. Shopify Starter plan was temporarily locked to legacy; check whether that’s been fixed for your plan.
When you’d use this
- Your Fileflare thank-you page or order status downloads have stopped working.
- You’re seeing a Shopify banner about upgrading checkout.
- You changed something in Fileflare’s checkout settings and the download blocks disappeared.
The short version
Shopify deprecated script tags on legacy checkout as part of moving everyone to Checkout Extensibility. Fileflare (and every other app) injected its checkout blocks via script tags. With those blocked, legacy checkout no longer shows app content. Existing script tags work for a transition period but will be deleted on schedule (Plus stores: 28 August 2025; non-Plus: TBD).
Practically: if you’re still on legacy, you have to migrate. There’s no way around it.
Am I on legacy or new checkout?
Quickest check
- Shopify admin → Settings → Checkout.
- If you see a banner saying “upgrade to the new checkout”, you’re on legacy.
- If you see the customize button without any banner, you’re on the new checkout.
Visual check
Open the Order Status page for one of your existing orders. The new checkout has a refreshed visual design with cleaner typography and a different layout from the older legacy version. If your Order Status page looks dated, you’re likely on legacy.
Upgrade to the new checkout
- Shopify admin → Settings → Checkout.
- Click the upgrade option in the banner.
- Follow Shopify’s prompts to switch to checkout extensibility.
- Once upgraded, you’ll have a new checkout customizer.
- Add the Fileflare app block to the Thank You and Order Status pages — see thank-you page downloads.
- Publish the new checkout template.
The migration takes a few minutes; once published, Fileflare’s blocks render immediately on new orders.
Existing legacy customers (transition period)
If you added Fileflare’s checkout downloads on legacy before January 2025, your existing script tags continue to work until Shopify deletes them per their migration schedule. Don’t change Fileflare’s checkout settings during the transition — Shopify will delete the script tags as soon as you do, and re-enabling on legacy isn’t possible.
Best practice: upgrade to the new checkout proactively rather than waiting for the deletion deadline. The migration is faster than you’d expect.
Shopify Starter plan
Shopify Starter has been temporarily locked to legacy checkout without an upgrade option — known issue Shopify is actively fixing. If you’re on Starter and don’t see the upgrade banner, that’s why. Check Shopify’s release notes; the new-checkout option for Starter may have rolled out by the time you’re reading this.
Common issues
- Upgraded but Fileflare blocks didn’t auto-appear — by design. The new customizer is empty by default. Add the Fileflare blocks via Settings → Checkout → Customize.
- Customers using cached email URLs from legacy still hit the old page — old links keep redirecting to the new pages automatically once you publish.
- I don’t want to migrate yet — you’ll lose Fileflare’s checkout downloads on the deletion date. Email and customer-account delivery still work; only the thank-you page block goes away.
