Fileflare’s own download email is single-language — whatever you set in the template is what every customer sees. To deliver download links in the customer’s language automatically, embed the download into Shopify’s order confirmation email and use Shopify’s translation app to localize it per customer.
Requires the Basic plan or higher (for thank-you page download links, which the Shopify email integration depends on). Uses Shopify’s free Translate & Adapt app — no extra subscription.
When you’d use this
- You sell to customers in multiple languages and want them to see download instructions in their own language.
- You want to consolidate everything into Shopify’s order confirmation rather than two separate emails.
- You’re using Shopify’s Markets feature and need email content to vary by region.
How it works
Fileflare adds the download links to Shopify’s own order confirmation email (via a code snippet you paste into the email template). Then Shopify’s Translate & Adapt app translates that template per language. Customers receive a single, localized email — no separate Fileflare email needed.
Setup
1. Add download links to Shopify’s order confirmation email
Follow Add downloads to the Shopify order confirmation email for the full walkthrough. There are three placement methods (button, big button, list) — pick whichever fits your style.
2. Install Shopify’s Translate & Adapt app
Install from the Shopify App Store. Free.
3. Add your languages
- Shopify admin → Settings → Languages.
- Add every language you want to support.
- These languages must be enabled here before they show up in Translate & Adapt.
4. Translate the order confirmation
- Open the Translate & Adapt app.
- Go to Notifications.
- Translate the Order confirmation email content per language. The download-link section you added is part of this template, so it gets translated alongside the rest.
5. Disable Fileflare’s download email
So customers don’t get two emails:
- In Fileflare, go to Settings → Emails.
- Toggle on Disable all order download emails.
- Save.
Common issues
- Customer’s email is in English even though I added their language — Translate & Adapt picks language based on the customer’s browser locale at checkout, or the language they explicitly selected on your storefront. If neither matches your enabled languages, they get the default.
- The download links in the translated email look the same in every language — the URLs themselves don’t translate (they’re functional). Only the wrapping text (button label, instructions) is translated.
- I disabled Fileflare emails but customers still get them — toggle takes effect on new orders only. Orders placed before the toggle still triggered the original Fileflare email.
- I want to localize the Fileflare email itself, not switch to Shopify’s — not currently supported. Fileflare’s email is single-language. The Shopify-email approach is the workaround.
