Upgrading or downgrading your Fileflare plan happens through Shopify’s billing system, not directly in Fileflare. Pick the new plan in-app, click through Shopify’s confirmation, and the change takes effect immediately. Same flow whether you’re moving up, moving down, or going to free.
Available on all plans. Plan changes are billed by Shopify on a 30-day cycle (see why am I charged after cancelling for the cycle math). Downgrading to a lower paid tier or to free immediately removes access to higher-tier features.
When you’d use this
- You’re hitting your plan’s storage cap and need more.
- You want to unlock a feature gated to a higher tier (PDF stamping multi-template, customer accounts, streaming, IP limits).
- Your trial is ending and you’re picking a paid tier.
- Volume has dropped and you want to scale down.
- You’re cancelling — downgrade to free or uninstall the app.
Change your plan
- Open Fileflare from your Shopify Apps menu.
- Go to Settings.
- Click Change your plan.
- Pick the new tier from the plans page.
- Click through to Shopify’s billing confirmation.
- Approve. The change takes effect immediately.

Cancel a paid subscription
Same flow — pick the free plan or click Cancel subscription, and Shopify handles the rest. Two paths:
- Downgrade to free — keep the app installed, lose paid features, no ongoing charges.
- Uninstall — Shopify cancels the subscription on uninstall. See Uninstall for what happens to your data.
What changes when you switch plans
- Storage: immediate. If you downgrade below your current usage, you can’t upload new ones until you free space or upgrade. We will preserve your assets for a grace period (30 days) so you can retrieve them or re-upgrade, but you will lose recently uploaded files / your account will be frozen until storage is under your cap.
- If you need help adjusting storage just reach out to our team! We’ll work with you to make sure your set up is running effectively.
- Features: immediate. Higher-tier features (e.g., customer accounts on Premium) lock when you downgrade. Lower-tier features stay.
- Billing: Shopify handles the proration. Your next monthly invoice reflects the new tier (see the cycle math on why am I charged after cancelling).
Common issues
- Plan change isn’t visible after approving — Shopify can take a few minutes to confirm. Refresh Fileflare. If it persists, check your Shopify billing dashboard.
- I downgraded and customer-account downloads stopped working — customer accounts require Premium. Re-upgrade or move customers to email / thank-you-page delivery.
- Trying to cancel but the button is disabled — usually means there’s an unpaid charge. Resolve outstanding billing in Shopify before cancelling.
- I want to change plans but keep the same features — only possible on upgrade. Tier features are bundled. See the pricing page to see what each tier includes.
