Choose how Fileflare displays download links across email, thank-you page, and customer accounts: a single download button that opens a Fileflare-hosted download page (with all your branding and limits info), or a plain bullet list of links directly in those surfaces. Most stores use the button + page; the bullet list is simpler but less branded.
Available on all Basic+ plans. The setting is global — it applies the same way to every delivery surface (email, thank-you page, customer accounts). Switch in Settings → Download settings.
When you’d use this
- Default of “button + page” works for most stores — it gives you styling control, shows download limits, and supports streaming.
- Switch to “bullet list” if you don’t need styling and prefer the simplest possible UX.
- Switch to “bullet list” if you’ve seen customer-side issues with the download page (rare, but happens with unusual themes or older browsers).
The two methods compared
Download button & page (default, recommended)
Customer sees a button. Clicking it opens a Fileflare-hosted page on your store’s domain that lists each file with a download icon. The page:
- Inherits your Shopify theme styling.
- Shows download limit counters (e.g., “5 of 10 used”).
- Supports in-browser streaming for video, audio, and PDF.
- Can be heavily customized via CSS.
Bullet list of links
Customer sees a bullet list of direct download links right where the download box would have appeared. Click → file downloads. No intermediate page.
- Simpler — no extra click.
- No streaming support (link goes straight to the file).
- No limit counter shown to the customer.
- No sort order control — bullets render in the attach order.
- Limited styling.
Switch between methods
- In Fileflare, go to Settings.
- Open Download settings.
- In the Delivery methods section, use the dropdown to choose Download button & page or Bullet point list.
- Save.
The change applies immediately to new emails and pages. Already-sent emails keep their original layout.
Common issues
- I switched to bullet list and customers can’t see the limit counter — by design. Limit counters only show on the download page (button + page method).
- I switched to button + page and the streaming feature isn’t working — confirm streaming is enabled in Settings → Global media viewing. The button + page method is required for streaming, but you also need the streaming toggle on.
- Some old emails still use the old format — emails are rendered when sent. Old emails keep their original layout. New ones use the new setting.
